The sole of my Altbergs is peeling away at the back.

Any of the various shoe glues work? or shall I just get the mastic gun out and splodge.

Of course if you have a good, proper cobbler near you (we have two plus another a little further away) you would get a cheap and better fix. Not as cheap as shooglue but they use the proper stuff and do it well. Should last longer.

A proper cobbler can often get the right sole unit to suit your boots being in the trade and often the only truly lasting fix is a proper resoling. Altbergs are great for that and IIRC Altberg are one of the brand who do make their sole units available to proper repair places.

We had a brilliant shoe guy in out town. Used to take all my riding boots, deck shoes and work boots to him. Unfortunately he closed down last year.
So going to give “shoe goo” a go as the sole of my walking trainers is flapping away at the toe. Had to resort to gaffer tape on an outing a couple of months ago.

I remember once having the same issue & asking a neighbour who worked for K Shoes for some glue. He gave me a contact adhesive and a G Cramp. The repair outlasted the boots!
That was when K shoes was a good brand.

You’re not from Kendal are you. Don’t know if it’s still there (not been there for nearly 30 years), but there was K shoes and the factory or second shop back in the day.

Shoe Goo seems to be a kind of contact adhesive for really good adhesion something reactive is needed. Flexible Polyurethane sealants are good two component adhesives (non foaming) are best. Depending on the lowest temp expected one has to check the glass transition temp of the stuff (temp where it turns hard). On fixing outer soles to the rest usually flexibility requirement is not very important as the soles tend to be stiff if it is flexible one also needs a flexible adhesive.

K shoes is long gone from Kendal. What was the factory & the workers’ factory shop back in the day is now a gym and a Travelodge with some trendy flats above. When Clark’s bought K shoes they moved all the production abroad.
