Can anyone offer any advice on a good, and easier, way of removing the shells from sunflower seeds, than just sitting there and picking them off one at a time?

TIA

Andy.

I'd like the same sort of information about pumpkin seeds too, please.
I've tried cooking and eating them with the shells on, as advised on several sites, but they're not good.

I have wondered about the rubber tube type thing that's supposed to peel garlic cloves :dunno: Would that work on sunflower and pumpkin seeds?

Example:

Cheers,
Toddy

p.s. Found a nice site about growing, saving and cooking with sunflower seeds.
Don't know anything about the authoress.

I've just been reading through the entire book, lots of info :D

I think you're right; parching and then thumping them to crack/ loosen the shells and then some vigorous winnowing to get rid of the chaff.
It's the thumping bit that's going to be awkward to get right.
Let me know how you get on? Wonder if this would work well on beechmast too?

cheers,
Toddy
