I have long hair and a longish beard. Usually I just use a headband and tuck the beard into my jumper in my work room. For bigger powered tools I have a leather apron with a beard flap. I do not like pony tails.

Recently my Dremel climbed up my beard to remind me that I need to be more careful.

I’m thinking about adopting a shamagh but it will have to be a trimmed down one so that it isn’t itself a hazard.

However having got one I rather like it just as a garment. I very rarely wear any sort of hat, I’m more of a hood bloke but this is fun.

Does anyone else wear one?

In my head I've paused painting in the imaginary palette , wondering if the height is taking this in an A) Wizardly OR B) Dwarf of Moria vibe?

I like Shemaghs a lot. Very useful , warmer than a scarf to me and can be pressed into service for a lot of different reasons.

I dont tend to wear it on my head , have and do use it as makeshift small pillow , sun shade , picnic mat , hasty dressing. LOTS of uses.

I sometimes wear one outdoors if I need a bit more firepower than a Buff provides. Usually as a mixture of scarf and face covering.

When not wearing, I have it in my daysack as it’s useful as an improvised towel/cloth/water filter/table cloth/sling/bandage/etc.

I have one given to me by and Palestinian
pilgrim who stayed with us for a couple of months some years ago (my parents did religious pilgrimage stuff and stayed in random countries and random people came and stayed with us)
I rarely wear it but it’s been handy as a sling, strapping for a leg wound, make shift ditty bag, hand towel, flannel, and of course to keep the sun off. Soaked in water and wrapped round your neck it’s wonderfully cooling to.

I have the black rope bit to fasten it but I have never done anything with that.

I’m a six foot two dwarf - don’t categorise me :rofl:it’s heightist!

What have pointy hats got to do with it?

I wear one almost every day, genuine not a Chinese knock off. I’m not sure the factory is still running, last shipment got out of the country across the desert in 4x4 vehicles. The blog on here and the history of the factory are fascinating. I have this one pictured below that I’ve just taken off after walking the dog, and another in brown.

The factory appears to be in Hebron, West Bank, so it will hopefully have more change of surviving than if it had been in Gaza and reduced to rubble

Nice. I always think of that as the classic Yasser, though he wore a black and white.

My dear old 83 year old mum still wants to cut labels that show and threatens my label with the scissors. Much as I dislike virtue signalling, it’s got to stay.

I've two genuine Hirbawi kufiya, the Black and White and the Royal, they're very good for warmth and comfort when used as a scarf and, also dapper to wear, though those extra long tassels can be a pain in the proverbial...forever getting caught up in jacket zips, or fouling my bino straps.

Two smaller, thinner, Indian ones fit the bill for use Spring to Autumn. I like 'em all
Regards
Ceeg.....

should have added that I have never had to use any of them as in an emergency, or as a water strainer, a longii, or for hauling cattle out of ditches

I think it as a bit of kit as opposed to any geographical , historical or political provenanced connection.

Its more useful to me as than a scarf - thats all I really take into consideration.

me neither...
there's a long list of famous people through history who had beards, i know at least of three named for their facial hair (=Friedrich I / Barbarossa, Sven Forkbeard, Edward Teach / Blackbeard)

Santa Claus.

( No shemagh - but Red and White with Holly leaves in the corner would trend well I'd imagine )

Have you thought about a turban to wind the hair up in, for the shemagh can be fashioned into one.

But yeah on occasion I use a shemagh albeit not of the Palestinian dfesign, in the colours of black and two shades of green, two shades because the sun did a number on part of it, perhaps I should again dye it
