Scottish history books

Hi,

I'm looking to find some more information on the history on areas of Scotland such as Rob Roy country etc.

Does anyone know and/or recommend any good history or guide books?

Not personally, but I'd suggest a chat with the librarian at the local public library. They're often a wealth of information on local history resourses.

For years Nigel Tranter factionalised Scottish history. His Bruce trilogy helped pass a six month tour of Bosnia. Sir Walter Scotts novel on The Highland Rogue is worth reading, once read watch both films for the landscape of both the Trossachs and Perthshire.

For a history of the Borders try 'The Border Reivers' by George MacDonald Fraser. Fascinating reading.
