I asked Tony at the 2015 moot, if I could rescue a beautifully grained piece of Oak from the fire wood pile. Two years later it is now small garden side table. Thanks Tony, the wife loves it.

Aye - not bad for firewood!
Is going to be used at the Moot this year or is it held by the better half for strict home use only?

How does so much really interesting wood wind up on the burn pile? Same here.
It's one thing to find such a piece. Quite another to bring out the visual appeal.
Would you please add a note regarding your finishing technique and materials?
Much appreciated.

Good save indeed. As a tree surgeon I've been horrified by what ended up on the fire over the years.

Hi RV. The finish was quite simple, it's pretty much as I founf it. I cleaned the cut surface up a bit, but wanted to leave some of the tool marks in it, not to polished. the finish is four coats of a two part floor varnish I had to hand, a little like epoxy resin. Time will tell how good it is.

Thanks for the comments guys.
