While walking our dogs this morning we found a fallow buck entangled in some old chainlink fencing. Must have been struggling to free himself all night and was not in a good way.
i know it's uncommon but this old fencing must have been laying around for twenty years. When i used to manage woodland we'd clear away anything like that. Even the smallest litter winds me up.

Not my favourite way of obtaining buckskin...

I shoot them regularly, but I still hate to see them, or any other animal suffer. I think that's why I shoot, when I eat it I know it didn't suffer.

The beast was lucky someone came along who knew what to do and had the courage to do it. Well done.

mmm i'll take a risk.waste not want not.in my opinion only course of action that couldve been taken,a respectful decision.

How did you actually kill it? Did you have a knife with you? Man, I hate fences..... Myself and a friend were walking at the foot of the wicklow mountains recently and we kept encountering these tall wire fences which were a really irksome barrier to travel!

Hats off to you im not sure i could of done it, its one thing shooting down a scope at 200 yrds but face to face with such a large animal that takes guts, think i would of had to "phone a friend"

When i was up scotland there was alot of dear fencing but the square mesh holes were quite large presumably to let other small wildlife through? But id sa if a small dear realy wanted to it could get its head and front legs possibly through and become stuck.

I,ve seen a couple of deer in scotland hanging from them fence`s -well rotted tho!! -presumably a failed jump to clear the fence !!!

its not whether anyone could do it,it had to be done.the silent plea for end in those big eyes would be too much to ignore.

Just been watching Safari Vet School, some Rhino horn poachers left a poor Rhino in a terrible mess, some heartless barstewards out there. :(

I no i watch a few programmes on cbs and there alot of animal abuse adverts. Bears with a chain ring through there nose chaind up teeth and claws removed and then people watch as dogs attack them. Makes me so angry that stuff like this still goes on

the "!" kinda shows it was a joke

No - that indicates shouting or emphasises a harsh comment.

a ;) :lmao:or similar smiley indicates it was a joke. ;)

Sad to hear about that Bundleman. But I wouldn't have said no to the beast either. Haven't seen that myself but I've had to deal with a fair few mixy rabbits in my time.

All the best

Andy
