Living in the north of Scotland there is an abundance of Rowan trees (and loads of pine too). Is Rowan wood ok to use for bow drill fire starting?
I'm really wanting to have a go at this technique

I've done it with Rowan, wasn't as good as hazel, sycamore and willow but I managed an ember with a bit of effort. The first ember I ever managed was actually with some very dead and well seasoned larch so try pine as well.

The thing to remember for any wood you use for bow drilling is to make sure the wood for both the hearth and spindle is well seasoned and dry.
