You're meant to take those seeds and shove them down the back of somebody's jumper and then run off.

We have a lot of the big rosa rugosa ones growing in the hedgrows around here. Those are big and firm, and you can peel the thick flesh off them leaving the seeded cores alone.
The strips dry well, but they're a sweet munchy too. Bit like less sour and less tough apple skins.

I know they were sold originally as hedging plants. Cuttings take well from them.
