I have been looking for a good while for a rucksack I used to have in the late sixties and early seventies. It was green canvas with two pockets on the front. Leather trim and buckle straps.. A drawstring and flap. There was no rigid carrying system but the back straps came out of a leather patch on the back which had a metal ring that the straps attached to. One strap had a buckle and the other a hook that went into a metal ring. Can anyone tell me what it's called or have one for sale? I'm trying to get a retro kit together and I have everything except the rucksack. I've searched everywhere but can't find what I'm looking for anywhere. I know they would be pretty rare now but I have some cash saved ready to buy. Any help would be appreciated even if it's only to tell me where to look. Thanks.

Yes that's the look. I have seen this and got a friend to order it for me. It arrived this morning and I was so excited. Only to almost cry when I saw it. Cheap shoddy and only day pack size. It's going back.!
I'm looking for the real thing not a cheap Chinese knockoff that barely takes a purse and a hankie!
Anyway that is exactly the look I want but i need a pack I can use to carry my bushcraft and camping stuff like I did way back then in the mists of time and early teen hood.
This is why I hate buying on the interweb. You can't see what you are getting. !

Contact Kev at Endicott's and show him that photo. Tell him what was wrong and ask if he has anything suitable. It's astonishing the stuff he turns up :D

Ah, I hate those. It's a pain to clean them up too.
I kind of want to reach through the screen and choke the blighters with their own cables.

Yes .. about £60-£65 including postage. Once I get my money back from the rip off merchant
Could it be an Alp Sport ?

If you have a look on Pinterest, there are a few 1960's examples.

I am just in the process of making one of that style - from scraps from my projects box.
Based on a pattern in "Mid Moor and Mountain" by Melville Balsillie and Jim Westwood first published 1955.
Available from Amazon for about £5

Some of what you describe sounds like a Savotta 123. The shoulder straps going through leather, but in this case they are the draw string too.

Ray Mears sells them but looks like £80 ish delivered.

Thanks. No that's not the right one. If you look at the link that is in post 2 by Deekin that's almost exactly what I'm looking for. I think the Swiss or German army did one like it. Mine was a civvy version.
How hard can it be to track one down??? I've been trying since before Christmas!

Close but not right.... I'm a fussy ol'so and so aren't I! But it's got to be right. Everything else is either my origional kit or an identical replacement. .. down to the ghastly Peter storm orange half zip overhead kaghoul! It's been a pet project over the last year and a half and this is the last bit of the project. So it needs to be right
