The other week we found this birds nest in a rope coil that was stored in a barn at my uncles place. I thought it was really cool! It was quite desolated (we suspect it was last years nest). Is this the handiwork of a swallow you think?

It looks more like a wren or long tailed tit to me, i'm no expert but i'd go for the wren.

Long tailed tit sprung to mind when I saw it.

But on reflection I think Andy is correct - especially as this is a wren's nest

Cool! I`ll have to keep an eye (Or better, an ear) out for wrens next time I am in that area.

When the eggs hatch the babies can be quite bold peeking out and cheeping
