Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot !
I see no reason, why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot.

Our certain past was their very uncertain future.
Thing was, the King was actually the ruler that the majority wanted in the job.

Did you know that by law the people had to light fires and celebrate the failure of the plot ? :)

I'd have thought that bushcrafters would be out there having fun with the right and the night :D

I'm just waiting for dinner to finish cooking, but I'm going out to play later :D

cheers,
M

The Fifth of November

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!

A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two, The better for me,
And the worse for you.

This verse is as offensive as the one in the national anthem about the rebellious Scots to be crushed
Removed in the interests of peace and courtesy. Mary

Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

I never once mentioned religion; I did mention treason.
Historical fact.

Let's not spoil it; it's a fire festival at the cusp of Winter, let's just enjoy it in the present because soon enough it'll be banned as a dangerous, polluting, destructive :sigh:

If the local kids threw an effigy of a member of parliament in the wheelbarrow, instead of Mr Fawkes, when they were coming round, 'penny for the guy'ing' I'd slip them a fiver.
