Releasing of the Shrew

I spotted this little fella upstairs in the house I am working on and thought "naaah! it must be a mouse", then while ascending the stairs there he was one down from the top and looking panicky, peering over the edge of the tread then retreating to a corner before going for another look. Now their eyesight ain't that good but I reckon he could see me well enough so I ushered him into the bucket I was carrying and took the opportunity to have a brief close up look before grabbing the camera and taking him outside.

Plenty of grubs and insects for him in that overgrown patch, indoors he would likely have starved.

I understand they need up to twice their own body weight of food each day to survive so he now has 4 acres of overgrowth to forage in
