I spotted this little fella upstairs in the house I am working on and thought "naaah! it must be a mouse", then while ascending the stairs there he was one down from the top and looking panicky, peering over the edge of the tread then retreating to a corner before going for another look. Now their eyesight ain't that good but I reckon he could see me well enough so I ushered him into the bucket I was carrying and took the opportunity to have a brief close up look before grabbing the camera and taking him outside.

Plenty of grubs and insects for him in that overgrown patch, indoors he would likely have starved.

Shrew metabolism runs so hot and fast that they are starving to death in an hour.
Your 'overgrown patch' will be a banquet.

I understand they need up to twice their own body weight of food each day to survive so he now has 4 acres of overgrowth to forage in :D
