Normally we have 2-3 pairs of Red Kits in our small valley with lots more around outside. But last year flying over the house there were a pair of Black Kites (Milvus migrans)

It's hard to capture these lovely creatures in flight but they were really close overhead and with a 300mm lens I got a close as I was ever likely to get on the wing. Note the flatter tail feathers as opposed to the distinct 'v shape of the Red Kite. And the distinctive wing pattern with the angled back wing tips.
