Reconstruction Yakut knife.

It was for me interesting to make as exact as possible replica of Yakuts knife.
Unfortunately only very small quantity of old original knifes survived in museum und private collection and the Yakuts lost their old blacksmitch tradition. Today you can see only some souvenirs but no real tools like knifes in Scandinavia. And what is more interesting for me this knife has a typical asymmetrical shape.
My replica is based on most exact knife description from ethnografic research
"THE YAKUT" Waldemar Jochelson 1933 p.137-139".
http://digitallibrary.amnh.org/dspace/handle/2246/138
"Bone handled knife for general use" So this is "Sibirien Indian" equivalent of "bushcraft knife"

Hi Tamoko,

That is lovely. Such simple functionality it just screams to be picked up and used. There will be some admiring messages about this knife I think.

Thank You for comments.
I am not knife maker this is my first knife complete from blade to handle.
I made small all purpose version "bushkraft" right on pictures "a"

I do not have grinder or other special knife maker tool, blade was made from old wood chisel.
It was more like experiment to test this shape, it fill maybe like crooked knife, but in knife shape.
This feel different than for example Scandinavian knife, asymmetrical shape work like wood plane
On this photo you can see larger version "b" Yakut used for bear hunting.

Do you plan to try the rings described cut into the handle? Or leave it smooth?

Either way its very pretty :)
Sorry My English I do not understand Your question.
I made simple Cooper bolster but it was same long work like for blade only.
Original old handle was like on skandinavian knife, ringd from birch bark, brass, bone or horn.
Most modern lost tradition and make just simple wood.

Some old decorated wood handle.
