@bb07 I thought the diamond ones wouldn't last that long..

Yours has genuinly lasted 20 years? I assumed they were effective but wouldn't last long with regular use, maybe a year or two max..

The ones I've had that long aren't pictured above but yes, and they are still working fine.

Not all diamond's are equal. I've also been using DMT for 20yrs and wouldn't use any thing else. I do have a DC4 but its not used.
Cheap diamonds can be got at lidel,B&Q etc but it dosnt take long for the grains to come off

I did know a bloke who wore out his DMT set but it took years of daily use. The DMT see guy nearly fell of his perch when told as he had never seen one

Very true. I'm glad to see someone else that likes the DMT brand. I can't say anything bad about them as all my experiences with them has been positive. No other brand has given me such good service.

The spyerdo double stuff also seems very good, how does it compare to a functioning dc4?

It is excellent and probably my favorite but if you are trying to sharpen uber steel like ZDP189, it is good to have a diamond stone handy, especially if you've nicked your blade. The small, flat "flip open" DMTs don't take up much room and they work great.

That's a bummer on the DC4. I have an early DC3 and it is excellent.

The dmt one is certainly sounding pretty good, I guess it's down to the spydie and the dmt then!

I wonder if wifey will stick on in my Christmas stocking? :D

I use carbon steels mostly so either stone will work nicely I'm sure.

I got a spyderco doublestuff from lurch.

I'm no sharpening expert, but it can put a razor edge on my machete with an hours work, so thats good enough for me.

I have heard good of Wästilä whetstone. Stones suitable for a puukko costs either 7£ (100x30x6mm) or 12£ (120x30x10mm) if ordered straight from the factory.

I got a couple of the folding DMT stones from longstrider and love em for use at home. To carry with me I have the spyderco double stuff after a recomendation from Siberianfury. My DC4 was naff so binned it for the DS.

Most of the time though I just strop to top the edge up.
