I've been given a really decent very warm Parker and once I've dyed it black i would like to waterproof it,
At the moment its more like a duvet with sleeves and won't be any good in the rain.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd buy a shell. Layers. Doing a really, really excellent DIY waterproofing job is hardly cost effective.
Sweat in that and it might be hard to dry and really cold tomorrow.

I went to a chandler. Bought a boat coat, just a shell, 4X large. Fits over everything I own, if I need it.
The joke is that it has a bilious lime green fluorescent hood = safety equipment = tax free.

Thanks for the replies, decided forget rid of Parker and get a dedicated goretex coat,
I do like the idea of the tax thing, I could get a work coat!

I bought the boat coat about 25 years ago. Even has functional wrist seals which actually work.
I paid a lot of money for it. I wore it in open boats (sport fishing) with 2-3" rain per day, day after day. Dry.
Layers of sweaters (wool) and a 100% waterproof shell outside. Plus, the shell is wind proof.
That wet wind chill will drop you into hypothermia in no time at all.

My professional commercial fishing hat, jacket and pants were company clothes.
Should have bought same but far too heavy to hike around in.
