I've misplaced my pocket knife. Pretty sure it'll turn up. But I've been having a look for a new one and it seems quite hard to find anything I like the look of in the UK. I quite like the Vosteed Raccoon, but couldn't get one, then stumbled across the Manly City in s90v steel. But can't buy that either unless in bright orange. I'd prefer black, brown or green. Any suggestions of something on similar lines that is available in UK. I won't pay over £100 it needs to be capable of holding a good edge and must lock, I need my fingers!

What do you mean, you could not get a Vosteed Racoon? *edit: that sounded overly confrontational, not my intent. What I meant was, do you have an objection to mail order, certain companies, only buying from within the UK, or were just unable to locate one online? We often have folk asking advice who have placed unmentioned limitations on what where or how they are shopping.*

Heinnie Haynes appears to have a model in stock.

Similarly

14c28n will hold an edge, and be easier to sharpen than s90v.

What was the knife you mislaid? What steels are you familiar with sharpening, specifically, what super steels are you familiar with? If you haven’t used and figured out M390, S30V, S110V, or similar and have diamond sharpeners then S90V will be difficult to get really sharp.

Also worth looking on

I have bought from all four of the linked sources and they have been good. Heinnie is excellent.

Boker Plus has some nice knives that might fit your needs.

And…to save it being pointed out by others. You might know all this, but a surprising number of people don’t, so I hope you will forgive me if you do. The term “pocketknife” and UK EDC are usually used for sub 3 inch non locking knives. The law treats any length locking knife as a fixed blade, so there is a legal risk associated with carrying one when not on your own land, fishing, or directly using for work.

Best regards and good luck

Chris

Does it have to be UK stocked? I buy direct from various companies. I’m on my phone so can’t link to all the sites but:

Kizer
Petrified Fish
Real Steel
Civivi
Miguron

All produce some really exceptional and well made budget knives. A £35 Petrified Fish will shock you with how well made it is.

Thankyou! I'm sorry but I've not really got the hang of this forum.yet! I should've been a little clearer, I've no issues with orderering mail order, I live on the Isle of Wight we have little choice. We do have a gunshop that sticks a few knives I'll go take a look later. Nothing better than having a feel of one before purchase. The City and Raccoon both look suitable and have good reviews. But doesn't need to be one of them. As for the s90v steel, I just fancy trying one of the new supersteel, I run a workshop, I can justify anything required to sharpen through my business,. Would be nice to not have to sharpen so often. Any other suggestions welcome, I can give some criteria it must meet. One handed opening, right handed. Corrosion residence to some degree, it will go afloat I'm on an island. Locking, it must lock. It must take a decent edge. Slim, as rounded knives make a hole through my pocket then escape through it. No pocket clip or removable. I don't really want bright orange although I may not lose quite so often. Black green blue all good. Thumb stud not hole or I'd have a spyderco. I have massive hands - size 12 if you ever want to buy me some gloves!
The knife I'm using right now is an old retired one that the blade is now less than 1 1/2 inches long, it's done well the one Ive misplaced was a gift and I believe a Browning. In all honesty it never held an edge that well but had a good feel initially after a few years use was getting a bit floppy but it gets used several times a day, not sure how many but boy do I miss it when it's not there. I do know about the UK carry laws, but I carry all day at work, when I'm up farm, when I'm out fishing and when I'm walking the hounds. The only time I don't is when I'm going out of an eve and going up the hospital which aren't that often.
I will follow up on some of the leads already supplied thank you.
I was a bit dubious of ordering from outside the UK due to possibly getting impounded at customers or will that be fine?

Great, thank you for your reply!!
Your local choice isn’t that different from that on the mainland! :lmao: I think my local gun shop had some Spyderco once, but they were not anything I would want to use for field dressing game.
Anyway, ordering from Heinnie is safe as houses. I don’t know what the current mood is for seizing folders from Europe but you as said above, people do order direct and stuff arrives.

Sharpal diamond get good reviews and the Fallkniven CC4 is good albeit small. I use DMT Duofold and a red/green combo works well.

I’ve ordered many knives from outside the UK, it’s only flippers I worry about, and even they come through. Nothing from China has attracted any duty or fees, or been held back.

Terminus:
I reckon the S35VN version at £119 would be good for Goldfish, but I would be hesitant to recommend anything in D2 that would be taken fishing on salt water.

Do people in the UK buy from individuals abroad, rather than just companies? I keep thinking I might post some things that folk in the UK would be interested in.

I do, had a couple of torches from the BudgetLightForum guys no problem at all.

I know your knives and none are ambiguous like flippers or large blades, it would just depend on the postage from Canada. I know when I looked into sending the little Real Steel Iris to Greg that the cost was prohibitive, but I don't know about outbound stuff. Get a postage quote from your carrier of choice maybe?

Or, if you had interest in a few by individuals, I'd be ok getting a bundle, labelling and posting on from here. The age thing is a pain but Royal Mail have made the process as straightforward as it can be, plus anything sub 3" and non locking doesn't need age verification, like the SAK types.

All I'd ask in return is a Gene Ingram or two
