@Broch mentioned shooting shops. I find reasonably priced gear in the farm supplies places. The sorts of places you can get a length of water pipe, a roll of wire, or a new coat. They all seem to stock Hoggs, Ridgeline etc. Ridgeline is designed specifically for shepherds and not cheap, but that sort of gear, the Clarkson checked shirts, Hoggs etc is all good value and seeing as every farm worker I see is wearing it, it works fine.

TBH I rarely see a farmer in anything other than wellies, jeans, and a tattersall checked shirt with a waxed jacket for wet days and a wool jumper for cold.

Totally agree that…..
Decathlon, outstanding value. I have used their cheap thermal tees for years, hard to see a difference performance wise between them and Patagonia silk weight Capilene at £££
Charity shop wool, cheap as, warm even when wet. Also good for woolly hats.
Wax jackets ditto, no need for a big name.
Wellies ! Dry feet are happy feet.
Finally do not neglect Ebay, there are bargains to be had, like Paramo , waxed jackets etc
