What reading material do people take on trips with them?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for literature on nature and life in the outdoors

My all time favourite has to be the collected short works of HD Thoreau

Hi durhamboheme, welcome to the forum.
There is an excellent thread here entitled, "A Bushcraft Book collection" , quite a few titles listed. Maybe worth a look.

I will usually haul along a field guide or two. For longer trips I tend to bring a book that is Not directly outdoor related; too much of a good thing.

I tend not take bushcrafty books unless flora and fauna guides. Last book I took with me was Benchleys Jaws.

Coincidently the last time I slept out in the woods I read Thoreau, and it happened to be in a beautiful wood near Durham, with which you are probably familiar. Don't know what its called. I found it by chance while hitching up to Northumberland and needin a place to lay my head. Slept by a wide meandering river. It were wonderful!
