Then several coats of varnish to protect from the weather

Then got some shed (cast) antlers from a kind man - not a pair but close

I ground the crowns flat and put some cross hatching on

Drilled some 6mm holes

Cut some lengths of 6mm threaded bar

and glued them in with two part epoxy

I offered these up to the plaque and removed the varnish etc to offer a good key

The plaque was drilled to take the posts and the antlers bonded to the plaque

I fitted a couple of brass mirror plates to the back of the plaque

The plaque and antlers are now secured to the barn overlooking the drive and cottage

I know the antlers aren't an exact match and my carpentry is....dog rough. But, given the antlers were shed and the wood was exopected to be burned, I am happy :)

Excellent stuff, Hugh; When that sort of thing is done spot-on perfect it loses it's appeal for me, it becomes divorced from what it actually is; those look great!

Very nice Red. Its great to save something from the wood-pile that would have otherwise been burnt. Antlers look fine to me.

That's how I feel :) It also means I'm nots worried about putting it up on an outbuilding - its good to have interesting things to look at around us - eve if they have no real "value"

As I followed the progress of this I was expecting it to be a kitchen chopping block or a coat rack.

Wrong :)

Thanks for all the kind words :)

Rich - you have made my day ! That's exactly what I was going for in looks - our place is old and simple (like me) -so posh and modern would not suit it one bit
