As per thread title, is there an RAF or Royal Navy equivalent to the British Army fleecel jacket ?

If so, can they be bought new and unissued anywhere ?

I am a big fan of the Olive and Camo fleece jackets and I keep one in the car, one at the caravan, one at the cottage, one in my grab bag (which could probably sustain me for a month instead of the more standard 72 hours :) ) and there is one in the shed against the unlikely event that I ever decide to do any gardening...

I got fed up replacing North Face, Lowe Alpine and Berghaus kit so regularly and, so far, the army fleeces have been a great investment, with the major plus being if they get damaged or go walkabout I can easily get three or four new and unissued army fleeces for what I was paying for one of the branded jackets.

The question came up recently from a mate of mine who indicated that he would prefer to be wearing more sociably acceptable colours in some cases than olive green, DPM or Desert pattern, so does anyone know whether there is such a fleece and where they can be bought ?

I seem to remember seeing some Royal Navy fleeces a while ago but I can't remember where or what context.

Anyone ?

The fleece jackets are only issued in olive or dpm.
There is a blue goretex jacket with a zip in lining that was issued to the raf a few years ago.

Perhaps in a senior moment I am holding onto the memory of the blue GoreTex coat.

I'll suggest to my mate Gareth that he either parts with more cash or tries some dyeing experiments.

In the meantime I personally am more than happy to continue along the path of social unacceptability by wearing the olive and DPM fleeces. When you're my size folks tend not to pick you up for such transgressions anyway :)

Maybe that's the answer - maybe I should just tell Gareth to grow 6 inches and put a few stone on, and wear his current fleece with pride :)

I agree with the others, the fleece's are issued to all three services. Its been updated recently and now has a high collar and is passable for a shop bought item. The older 'Combat Cardie' was more like a liner. This shop has both versions:

I still think the Helly Hansen Field Jacket is a much better item then the issued kit.
