If it has a lot of ticks on it, kill them by salting or freezing. You can tan it in many ways, for example with fermic acid and alum, or using the brains of the animal.
I am in the same situation just now. What did you end up doing? How did it go? Have you got any pics?
I have salted it since sunday and need to figure out how to tan it so that the hair will stay on so that i can make it into a piece of warm clothing. Ideally i would like it to be tanned in such a way that it could get wet and it wouldn't wreck it. Any suggestions please!!
