I just bought a lanky puck for keeping a nice sharp edge on a hatchet that will be mainly used for rough carving. Will it need cleaning off at all/often, and if so what's the best way to do it?
Cheers, Mick.

Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
I use a GB axe puck and clean it off with a pencil eraser every time I use it :)

Does that trick work with ceramic rods too? Mine are packed and 9 miles away otherwise I'd be down in the basement now trying it out.

Further to sharpening tips, I spent a good part of the afternoon over at Toby's place (TP knives) helping out with a job he's working on, when we weren't working we were chatting about knives and top tips and do's and don'ts. Toby is very much an OCD anorak (his own words) when it comes to sharpening techniques and I learnt a fair bit of stuff off of him today. Thanks Toby, see you Tuesday.
