Pressie ideas

It's a bit of a nightmare at Boot Hall at the mo'

My birthday is in about 10 days and I'm being pressed for present ideas (and for Xmas a few weeks later)

The thing is I pretty much have most of what I need and not much of an idea about what I might want - if I want something badly I buy it, otherwise I reckon I probably don't need it.

All of which blather is my way of eventually getting to the point and saying "What should I ask for?"

The only thing I can think of is The Land of Feast And Famine by Helge Ingstad, which I read about on this site and sounds great.

Hello,
If you have all the basic kit you can always get an improved version or a personalised version of something. I also keep a amazon wish list so that people can always find something to get for me, it has the added advantage of suggesting books and items I may like too.

An opportunity to indulge in an "I want one, but can't just justify buying one" piece of kit. For me that might be a pocket grappling hook from edcgear (no affiliation), or else just a bit of luxury.

The best present leaving the fondest memories can sometimes be just sharing a nice day out in the countryside together.

If you don't need anything right now, say so :). I've not had a present from wife for nearly two years - but she keeps reminding me I am "owed a big one" when there is something I want. I plan to upgrade my reloading gear one day - but until I'm ready, there is nothing else I want so why waste money? Haven't celebrated a birthday in 20 years - I'm a bit old for candles.

As said above, enjoy the day and skip the consumerism.

My dad started running a few years ago and that has since escalated into trialthlon training. For his birthday this year we went to an open lake and had a swim together. A memorable day for all involved :)

I've got my grandson an Ordnance Survey MINIMAP centred on his home and personalised with his name. I bought on for myself some time ago to keep in my pocket for local bimbles without the need to take the whole sheet. Good £5 worth of stoking filler.

As for the bigger things, I watch this thread with interest as I annoy my family every year by not asking for anything. Like you, I either have what I want or buy what I need. In previous years I have asked for and got Oxfam goats, school desks and teachers' courses: provides a smug inner glow of self-worth! (Have to declare an interest here).

I'm struggling this year as well. One of those leather sewing awls and a USB microscope is about all I have on my wish list at the moment.

Thanks folks - some great ideas and also perspectives.

I put a list together that I think was OK - it was greeted with a look that said "You're Mad" tho'
