Yeah that should work well enough, not sure how long it would last being copper though, would it go soft eventually?

Another here for the break cable inner.
The outer of electrical cable will melt over the heat and could stick to your fingers burning them.

They make pans out of copper, its fine :).

It does fatigue and eventually break through flexing though and wont last anywhere near as long as stainless gear cable or the thicker brake cable.

I have used fencing wire and ...knitting needles!
None have broken yet, despite many years of use, though I do not expect them to last forever...

Another vote for fence wire. It is much stronger than coathangers etc.. & is useful to have about if you get stuck. It can also be free if you are in the right place & happen to see a free end just lying there....
