Whats the best kind of wire to use for a bale?
My pot had a handle so i ripped it off but don't know what to replace with.

The outer of electrical cable will melt over the heat and could stick to your fingers burning them.

I'll hang it over the hob and see what happens
Boiled water over the hob with no adverse effects on the wire.
Will test it over a fire tomorrow but even putting the wire straight on the hob had no adverse effects.

They make pans out of copper, its fine .
It does fatigue and eventually break through flexing though and wont last anywhere near as long as stainless gear cable or the thicker brake cable.

I have used fencing wire and ...knitting needles!
None have broken yet, despite many years of use, though I do not expect them to last forever...

Another vote for fence wire. It is much stronger than coathangers etc.. & is useful to have about if you get stuck. It can also be free if you are in the right place & happen to see a free end just lying there....
Don't have the tools to cut thick wire but the copper is good because of it's flexibility it won't roll but stay in place. Hopefully i get a month or two's use out of it though.
