Are there oing to be any kind of inline signal modifier like for digital tv but for radio?
It's not a signal modifier, it is a decoder, and requires quite a pokey one at that.

I work for a firm who produce graphic chip and digital signal processing core designs; if you have a digital settopbox or iPhone, you are using some of our chip designs.

Decoding the DAB signal takes a lot of processing power (hence the generally, compared to FM, crap battery life). It's actually more power than running WiFi!

Put it this way, one of our main designs has two threads (a bit like the dual core processors you hear so much about these days, but more efficient). Usually one is running Android/Linux and the other is going full chat decoding DAB. Just decoding DAB is taking up as much resource as a full operating system.

Good info, thanks.
