Got Dutch army poncho on the way. Just fancied adding one to my kit. Any benefit to the liner from point of view of camping ? Looks useful though apparently quite thin. Could use for extra layer in the bivy or even maybe as under blanket in the hammock?

It's better than the USA one... Fitted to a poncho it has a small overlap to stop cold spots... Reason I say that is I use mine Ranger roll style as a light weight sleep system in summer (can be damp due to body convection) in the morning.

Warmth wise I'd say it's equal or just slightly cooler than the swagman..

Advantages for bushcraft? It's a blanket so can do all the blankie things but it's not flame safe like wool.

So depending on your bushcraft it's handy if your into minimalist and lightweight. If your a bushcraft glampour, it's still great for a snuggly in the folding camp choir and as a extra layer for the sleep system etc if the tent stove dies down.

My dog loves mine when we're out too.

The Dutch army surplus poncho liner that I got was well made and in excellent condition but thinner than I expected i.e. apparently not much insulation in the middle. Are they all like that? Not that warm it seems, though I haven't tested it properly in cold & wet conditions to see if it has hidden qualities.

I have a very aged American one (long before they started calling them 'woobies') and honestly it's one of the most used pieces of kit I ever bought, for a princely £3 at the end of the first War & Peace show I ever visited.

WIth the poncho, everything from a British summertime swag to a cloth to mark my pitch at a French flea market. But honestly, most often used for a quick kip on the couch when under the weather.

Thanks for the comments good to know. The poncho arrived today. Perfect condition as new really from highland army surplus . Very pleased great service. Rarely see on eBay now. I may stick a liner on my list for future
