Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I got one of the cheapo "outdoors/camping/survival" thermometers. Made in china and of really naff quality. Binned it after a few days of ridiculous readings. I'm still on the lookout and reckon the Zeal link above is probably the best bet. But ideally something credit card sized with the ability to hang outside a bag and be able to tolerate a little abuse would be my ideal.
Been there done that.
1. Key ring (go outdoor) type with compass are useless, inacurate and the red stuff inside gets air locked.
2. Fridge ones (one pound in tesco/ebay) with bimetal indicator are decent but the redout is difficult due the tiny and inaccurate scale.
3. What you need is a waterproof digital thermometer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Fish-Aqua...ermometer&_dcat=117435&Type=Thermometer&rt=nc
Or just walk in to any pet shop. Just make shure they can read below zero temperatures.
I'm using my watch (casio 9400) strapped to my shoulder strap/tarp ridgeline.
Wimoto is about to release it's line of bluetooth environmental sensors. They will record readings in the unit and also transmit to a bluetooth device.
When they are released, I'll be getting one.
I've gone through a myriad of thermometers, most have been unsuccesful. The one that has lasted has been an Aldi max/min digital type. The wire did snap on mine in the cold, so I replaced it with tougher and more flexible silicone wire.
