Do you know what xylaria... I think you may have nailed it

Just looked up wild lettuce, then a list of wild lettuces and stumbled accross Lactuca virosa, or opium lettuce.

wild lettuce might be almost edible this time of year, the only time I have tried it, it tasted like lettice once it had bolted. might be alright with mussles and ramsons and a nice dressing.
