plant ID help, please

I have a load of these growing near by all with lots of fruits on.

I cannot identify it and woudl be grateful for any advice please.

have you cut open one of the fruits? what are they like inside?

Could be wrong, but it looks like a Crap apple? possible Malus x Robuta ' red sentinel'.

The largest ones are around 1 - 11/2 inches across
mainly hard texture, although some seem to have ripened and went a wee bit softer

i'd go with crab apple aswell, i thought the fruit looked cherry like until i saw them cut open. way too late in the season for cherry too. and the leaves are very appley.

It looks like an ornamental apple to me. The fruit will only be good enough for the birds if i am right.
