Plant and mushroom ID please. ....

Saw this strange looking plant today..... anyone know what it is?

It stood about 2.5ft high, on track edge of a very overgrown foot path.

Also saw this mushroom growing on a dead crab apple branch...

Again, any ideas to which fungi it is?

Plant is common hemp nettle Galeopteris tetrahit

And the Fungus is Dryads Saddle (Polyporus squamosus). Eadible when young but quite unpalatable the older it gets

If that is a recent photo it is more likely to be Polyporus tuberaster. Easily mistaken.

They do occasionally start growing later in the year, but it is unusual.

Ah I know dryads saddle, but didn't think it was that as I've never seen it on Apple trees before, and like you say, it's late. I took the pic just the other day. So, I'm, what's Polyporus Tubercaster...?

Common hemp? Mmm, can I use it for anything, cordage, wild edibles?
