Many of us have favoured sites where we either work or volunteer & where we teach, demonstrate, practice traditional skills, bushcraft and so on.
There's a wonderful network of places such as heritage centres, countyside parks, re-enactors villages, etc., scattered around.
Which would you recommend, and why? What sorts of events, activities or research, do they focus on?

Cheers,
Toddy

Beamish Open Air Museum is not too far from me and is a wonderful resource for seeing how stuff was done a hundred and fifty years ago. Much of it is interactive and they have many specialist events on throughout the year.

There's also Chopwell Woodland Park near Gateshead. It's one of the last remaining woodland areas that is classified as ancient woodland. We will have a presence there in August at the Chopwell Forest Festival where we will be promoting Bushcraft as a valid and viable lifestyle choice. Other than that, the forest is open to everyone for a number of recreational pursuits. The Friends of Chopwell are a group dedicated to making the place great for everyone and arrange all sorts of courses, demonstrations and displays with conservation in mind, for schools, youth groups and adults. There's always something going on.

That's just two of the many things going on in the North east of England.
