Heres my first go at a half wood case, as per the BB site.

I aint too pleased with the handle, cos the dog got hold of the first one, which was probably all to the good. It was a well figured lump of Olive, but real difficult to work with.

Still, judging by the teeth marks, the mutt enjoyed it almost as much as I enjoyed making the second handle, from a much less well-figured , but easier ,lump.

The wood part of the case, is from Ash, IIRC, which , for some reason, I dyed Mahogany.

I enjoyed the making so much, that I did two more, in Laburnum and Spalted Beech, and chose the wrong faces for both of ,em!

The hanging loop is adjustable for length, (a better pic is posted in the Gallery)
and, holds together by the friction of two overhand knots.

My thanks to the fellahs on BB (for their tutorial) and to the guys here, for help with some knotty probs.

Excellent sheath!

I'm soon to be embarking on my first scandi and have been drooling over the half wood/half leather sheath PB has made.

I thought something like that might be too ambitious....but maybe I'll give it a whirl after all :naughty:

Cheers

Wotcher Scruff.

You just need to follow the destructions in that there tutorial.
The only awkward bit, is sizing the leather.

I gotta admit that I got it right only after using a kleenex as a . fold- around template, and "pricking through" along the spineline.
You,ll find that , when you come to stitching up the wet leather, it seems that you,ve cut far too short, but you aint, for it hauls-up tight, ok.

And dont be too pernickerty with stiches per inch, ( it can be a pain, working with an unglued seam) I marked up for 6 per inch but drilled for 3 per inch. What us Mariners call, "homeward bounders".

Best of luck

Wotcher, Fiddleback.

Like to help you M8, but I just dunno how to do links. ( took me long enough and a lot of help, to do the photoposting).

But , all is not lost.

For, IIRC, its over on BB someplace and I think it was done by" Sajimo", or something which sounds like that,...headed as "Making a Finnish half-wood sheath"

FYI, I made the rebate , for the blade, in just one section of the two sides.
Then I made small drill holes on the rebated side, to indicate the final profile.

Then glued the two halfs together and then chased the drilled holes right through.
It was my way of by-passing alignment probs.

PM me, by all means, if you need a drag-out during construction.

It is here:
http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2403
I try to explain how to do this, but my english may not be good enough for it.
To put a link in your posting as shown above, do as following.
1. Presumed it is just another website you want to have linked:
Over your current website, open another one by pressing "Control", keep it pressed and press "N". Then highlight (=make blue with a left click of the mouse) the adress shown in its bracket. Then press "Control" and "C". then click on the underlying site, you can see it below as a blue square. Put the cursor in your text (it will blink) and press "Control" and "V" and you are done.
You can in the same way insert whole lines or chapters in your posting by simply pressing "Control" and C/V

Oetzi, you,re a genius! thanks m8.

Taggers,...woodwork and glue-ing took a day (didnt use"rapid").
Leatherwork, except for the time needed to find the right size, about 20 mins.

Wet-forming during the drying period( pushing it into the grooves); faffed around for about 3 hrs .

Final drying-off, about 3 days to touch dry everywhere, but found that it did shrink- fit some more, over the next 2 days.

Hope that helps.

Genius, my foot
When a computer is concerned, I am still more or less at a loss.
it is amazing that I can gather knowledge about nearly everything and simply do it. Be it a carburetor which I completely dis- and reassemble or the making of a knive. But try to get exact information for one special problem with the pesky PC and everyone and his uncle rattles off with some incomprehensible gabble for minutes,
expecting you to understand and memorize it for eternity.
