In my quest with a neighbour to enjoy the more obscure quality whiskiys of the world (ncluding the very competent Japanese malts) I stumbled today on the new Welsh single malt - Penderyn.

Pleasntly smooth non chill filtered malt. Golden colour with a slight toffee note. Jura meets bourbon is as close as I can get.

Anyone else tried it?

Ah well you can't please everyone.I'm Welsh born and bred and can't stand the stuff.I suppose it's alright for our foreign bretheren from over the bridge though.

I've got a bottle although I've not tried it yet, it was bought for me by a friend purely because it was welsh!

I had a 40th birthday bash with friends camping around Snowdon 3 years ago.

A friend made me do a blind taste test on two malts. The rules were I could keep the one I liked the most but had to share the other one with the group.

Turns out that the one I liked the least (but it was good) was a Welsh one and I think it was a Penderyn.

Thankfully I chose the other one. It was nectar. Turns out it was a 40 year old Duncan Taylor malt.

As far as I remember the Penderyn was quite spicy and enjoyed by everyone.

But Whiskey is a drink i feel I should like but havn't found one that I like.
My dad liked whiskey, and I do like JD and coke, Cuttysark(sp?).

I find Whiskey an odd tipple... I have tried many, and to the utter chargrin of a whiskey connasseur friend of mine, I find them all equally awful :dunno:

I have tried whiskeys that he's had shipped over from abroad, Special reserves at £200 a bottle and allsorts to no avail. The nearest I've ever got to enjoying whiskey is a Canadian offering called Crown Royal..... I kinda like that!!
