Not necessarily.
I had one yesterday morning. A seller in China and the item was out of stock.
The refund, and the notice of it in my Paypal account, came through this afternoon.

Similarly with a British seller who could no longer find the item, told me so and offered a refund.
Two days later the refund came through.

????

I have no idea how to help with that, I've never heard of it before ....did you buy on eBay? because if you did, and you paid by Paypal, you will get your money back pdq. If it wasn't on eBay, then Paypal still say you'll either get the goods or your money back.
You might need to raise a complaint, but they've always worked out for me. We buy a lot online these days. I think Paypal is excellent, even if it does seem a tad expensive sometimes. I reckon it's worth it for the insurance.

If a company cancels my order should it not be apparent on PayPal immediately?

It can take a couple of days or so, and I think the problem is more likely to be with PayPal and not the company you bought from. I’ve had this happen, even having to go into my PP account to claim the refund. It’s just security stuff. Is your PP a verified account for instance? Is it used rarely or often? Just tonight I had a small payment refused after a couple of other small transactions until I verified my payment method (expiry date of card and security number on back), via the secure PP site obviously and not from a random dodgy email with a link.

Having sold a few bits on eBay and used my own method of posting and not their print out labels I’ve had to wait 28 days to get my money if the buyer doesn’t leave feedback for the item. PayPal refuse to release the funds. That’s really annoying, especially when I sent someone a pair of almost immaculate Meindl chainsaw boots and he gave me bad rep because he thought the Hermes postage was too expensive, even though it cost less than the eBay recommended 48hr Royal Mail option. Basically, online selling and buying via PayPal can be a PITA, but you’ll get your money in the end. Could be worse. Apparently I’ve lost yet another Nigerian relative, and I’ve yet to get my £10,000 for the previous one. :lmao:

Paypal sucks sometimes

It does, but there’s a lot of insurance and security built into the system. Patience my friend, you’ll get it back. Annoying if the finger is hovering over the Pay button and the cash is needed immediately, but there’s a lesson in that too. ;)

Last time I had grief with PayPal i called them. They were incredibly helpful and even more efficient.

Sometimes papal can take a while, it seems that something or other gets enacted and that slows the process, often it's really fast but I've had refunds I've made to people take a week or more to clear into their accounts...

It varies but usually from my experiences with refunds it takes anything from a few minutes to half a day.
