I was wondering why paracord seems to be the de facto cord four our purposes.

I can understand that paracord can be used for for pretty much anything, also has the benifit of being broken down into the fine strands for other applications.

However paracord has stretch which for a lot of applications we don't want such as lashings.

It is a jack of all trades master of none thing in my mind except for it's intended purpose for which it excells.

Other cords have the charecteristics for which we mainly apply it to such as bankline which are also lighter.

Add to that that paracord in real life use only has a breaking strengh of around 200 pounds whereas cords like bankline can have very similar load bearing capacity in real life situations yet with the benifits of less stretch and less weight.
