Outdoor Working boots Safety (steel toe)

Can anyone recommend a good pair of comfortable boots to use whilst working in outdoor environment? needs to have a steel toe and preferably a steel midsole.

I am into ripping out fencing and barbed wire etc at the moment only hand tools no chainsaw or machines.
Good Grippy sole, Lace-Ups not riggers or wellies (maybe muck boots)
preferably not Gore-tex lined but hi leg(ankle support) would be better for me.
Leather not plastic. I will be doing a fair amount of walking,

Go for a pair of chainsaw boots. They will serve your purpose well, meet all the criteria you mentioned and will save you buying another pair if you do start using a chainsaw.

Not to put a dampener on these....
I once had a pair of CAT safety boots for work - chosen in haste after trying them on in stores. Really comfortable to stand up in but wow are those things heavy! I was knackered after hauling them around the factory for a 12 hour shift.

I bought my pair in 1996 and they are still good (I have resoled them quite a few times with rubber belting) Very solid and comfortable, literally warm in winter cool in summer they dont smell of sweat, sweet as a nut in fact.

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments, I found the boot that ticked all the boxes and what I can afford, went to Stein bergsteiger (non goretex) bought thru a contact *jonesie* http://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/ on the arbtalk forums that recommended them as well, I think they will be a good start and hopefully will be delivered tomorrow!! Can't wait to get them on and start being safe

That's a good price F R Jones have on those boots and their equipment in general. I remember an aboriculturist friend recommending that company to me and showing me their catalogue.

They will have a stall at the "Celebration of Trees" show in Enfield London this weekend, starting Friday, if anybody's interested in other forestry gear.

They have a rep for be worn by a certain type of perosn around here - usually living in Hebden Bridge. And aging New Model Army fans stuck in the 1980's (spoken as a long time NMA fan myself)

iv used my chainsaw boots out and about alot recently and after u get used to them they are prety comfy. i have haix blue ridge and they are reely hardwereing and quite waterproof even thow its is the 'non waterproof, non gortex' model but there are better boots for the money like these boots http://www.abbeypro.co.uk/subprod/treemme-chainsaw-boots-0001318.aspx

My wife thought I was nuts paying about £45 for them, but they have been worth every penny. In the 12 years I've had them I reckon I'd have gone through maybe 15 to 18 pairs of the cheapo bog standard factory supplied versions. One factory I worked in was prejudiced against my clogs, then I said I'll wear what I like mate, and besides they are EN rated higher than your normal factory type (stronger) If you stand on a nail it wont go through, great on ladder's as well.

I have a pair of timberland 24/7 pros
Have had them 4+years great boots all that you need..... have used them on site and in the woods I got them at Parkers for about £55 very good cumfy boot

Tested my Stein bersteigers today and very happy I am too, considering they are quite bulky they are light and very comfortable, not much heat inside the boot. not the sort of thing you would do a lot of miles in and drive in but once they wear in a bit more i reckon they will be perfect for what i want.

And as always a negative... I thought the sole was quite soft and checked to see if they have a steel midsole, unfortunatley they don't allthough they have the BN which must be for steel toes only. bit miffed that they don't make this crystal clear on websites.

My mistake should have reseached more before i payed up.

Steel midsole isn't too much of a problem seeing as i am not on a construction site.........info is for anyone else who stumbles accross this thread.

What size are you lost planet? The reason i ask is i've got some high leg steel toe caps and i think they have the steel midsole. They are brand new but no use to me and if they fit you, you can have them for the postage cost.
