out and about in Scotland

thinking of having a trek up to Scotland this weekend, the areas around Daer reservoir and/or St Marys Loch...anyone have any tips or nice must-see areas I should take in?

No real plan, just get up there and have a look around, find somewhere to pitch a tent...might even take in a spot fishing.

The midges are starting to come out but a wee bit of repellant should help.

Hi Rod,in between Moffat and St Mary's loch is the Grey Mare's tail,its a waterfall which you can hike up to the top of and walk round Loch Skeen which feeds the waterfall. You maybe get lucky and see the wild goats that roam around up there.You could even do a part of the Southern upland way or visit Wanlockhead lead mining museum to name but a few,hope it sheds some light.
