Hows about for use with night vision cameras? Although they'd only be good for real close up shots.

I've noticed the same thing, not just with cheapo LEDs (I think mine was an Inova microlight). White LEDs can cause some fluorescent excitiation (ooh err missus!) due to the wavelength of light they use... this PDF has some info but it needs the words alongside to really make sense.
