The standard method is to hold the hinge end and tap the other on a hardish surface. They'll become looser with use. Mine was so stiff I had to use pliers to open it at first!

Something I've done in the past is heat the blade enough to char the wood at the hinge.
Careful you don't change the temper of the metal though

open and close a few hundred times with the pliers, should loosen it up, then when it gwets to loose whack it with a hammer and tighten the pivot up, adjust accordingly
