I have just weighed in my vaude "lightweight" externally framed cordura pack against my home made willow pack frame and leather harness supporting a swedish army LK35 rucksack and do you know what there is only 2 pounds in it. What is more the vaude pack will fit inside the LK35 so I know which one will carry more.
It may well be that the vaude would be more comfortable in the long run, but the willow framed one (a variant of the roycroft frame with improvements) is certainly more versatile.
