I bought this S&J Neverblunt billhook on Ebay.
Does anybody have any idea when it is likely to have been made?
It was in reasonably good condition. There was a bit of pitting, but it is solid. There was still a bit of an edge on it.
I gave it an initial rubbing down of the surface rust and ground off the lumps and rolled edge along the back and curve.
I gave it a couple of coats of rust convertor.
I then used some cold blueing solution to try to even out the colour/finish.
I lightly sanded the handle and applied a few coats of Danish oil.
I filed the bevel and worked down to finer stones, abrasives and polish.
It has come up quite well. The steel appears to be of quite good quality. The handle is in good condition.
