Hi ,4040 !
I do have some experience but only with the Okapi folders, specifically the one with the ring pull closure.
However, you are considering a large fix blade and I have no knowledge of these things.
I can say, that the steel blade of the folders, is considered to be soft-ish in comparison with the apparant standards required by modern users.
These were always supposed to be cheap working tools and they do work, within their limits. They,re very easy to sharpen, and they need to be regularly sharpened during use.
But, saying that; the hardworking trawlermans gutting and netting knifes were often cheap and softish too, and they kept them keen, by a few passes with the long, round steel.
I believe that since the late 1960's , Okapi have manufactured an unbelievably large proportion of all the bush/work knifes used in Africa......and I would assume that they wouldn,t have sold many of them, had they been unfit for their purpose.
Why not contact them for a little updated input.
