Off the beaten track exploring one of the many Valleys in the Brecon Beacons.

Not a particularly long walk today, around 5 miles, but quite off the beaten track, a very secluded area with stream crossings, following sheep tracks and wading through a lot of bracken. I saw the remanence of a couple of old buildings, possibly hafodydd, some waterfalls, and an Owl. I took with me the Karrimor Jaguar 7 that I recently purchased. Hope you enjoy the photos.

I've never really done any work in Wales, not fieldwork anyway.

Up here, if we look at the earliest Ordnance Survey maps (literally made to see where best to site guns if the Scots rose up again) there's so much social detail included. Every little house, every farm, every farm building, every mill, mine, often details like orchards, sheep fanks, every clachan.....if there's something similar for Wales, you might find a wealth of social history of those little valleys. It can be a fascinating rabbit hole of research

It can be a fascinating rabbit hole of research

Yes, the OS maps are soo detailed. I really want to learn more about the history. I also have historic maps on my Hiiker app which is fun.
