Beautiful execution of a carving. To me, it also says a great deal about the sensibilities of both the builders and the home-owner.
To have such a piece crafted right into the structure of the house was very well thought out, beginning with the carver.

Nicely crafted in to the staircase, I like the flow at the base of the newel post.

The uplighter behind it - is that also wood?

I don't like the horse as a piece of sculpture, tbh.

Go back a few hundred years and this sort of thing was common.

I used to rent from a old estate home - there is a chapel there with a staircase just as impressive. Dates back to pre UK Civil war.

Yup, lacks emotion and movement. The mane doesn't flow around the curve correctly, the proportions of the horse look odd, the horse is prancing but their's no feeling of movement.

Saying all that it's way better than I could do.

The stair case looks [to me] like it's in a show room rather than a real home?

The beach driftwood sculpture is surely not carved? more a collection of handily shaped pieces cleverly arranged [although no less of a challenge to compose and no less impressive because of this]

Not a carving, but still a sculpture.
