But I have managed to make an ember with a bowdrill. Just couldn't get it to catch in the dried grass I was using for tinder. Maybe I should've used cotton wool but I didn't expect to get an ember :lmao: it's the first time it's ever got that far!

Nice one Grimnir,
Creating an ember and blowing that ember into a flame are two seperate skills - so take heart that you're half way to creating fire

It won't be too long now at a guess.

well done for getting an ember but like ogri the trog said getting an ember and blowing it into a flame are two different skills
all i can say i try again and again untill you get it
well done though

you could try practicing getting an ember to flame with alternate means.
after all getting the ember is the hard bit. use flint/steel/charcloth to create an ember (it's quicker to do) and try getting that to flame.
practice makes perfect ater all.

Yeeaaahhhhh!!!

I made it :D Only burned a bit of tinder - stuck with the dried grass btw - but made a new bow for an egyptian style as on THIS SITE which I found after a search on... BCUK :lmao: :You_Rock_

:D :D :D

I had the same problem, well chuffed I got an ember then failed to get a flame :(
I sorted it the way that ha sbeen suggested by using a charcloth or ciggarette ember a few times so when you get your bowdrill ember it is not wasted.
Well done BTW! It looks like you have got it now! :D

I did a lot of practicing of coal to flame by lighting bits of char cloth from a candle flame.

I can now get flame from mostly damp tinder, as long as I can get some of it to crumble into small particles.
