I was just about to get that knife.
I think I will wait for your result before I spend money on one now.
You might want to tell Helle I said that.

looks to me that the laminate must have been under stress to start with - otherwise why would it 'curve' back

go straight to helle i reccon!

I contacted JLS who supplied the knife but they are no longer agents for Helle.
I e-mailed Helle directly and they could not have been more helpful. They have promised a new knife asap. Can't ask for much more than that; helpful courteous and prepared to stand by their guarantees :)

I like the knife, this one was faulty but I don't know of any other instances of one de-laminating. Pleased to get a new one and would still recommend a Helle knife.

Problem is that I've been looking at others now; , it's those folks at BB's fault :p and I've quite fancied a Fallkniven WM1 even if it is a bit kitchen-knife like, but I also like Lord Farquhar's *Wren* that JFW has, and I've just seen the Helle Fire too.
HWTHMBLT has got that hunted look in his eyes again.....and he's threatening to hide my bank cards :lmao:
We'll see.

Cheers,
Toddy

Uhuh, chuffed is a good thing; pleased, happy, contented, slightly smug.....like a happy bird sitting on a well built nest in the best tree in the neighbourhood sort of feeling......it doesn't translate well

Cheers,
Toddy

how ironic! i think the rest of us can see the photo in your quote of toddy's post. it might be something to do with your browser settings...dunno what, but i guess all can say is, if you're not using firefox then start doing so!

the pictures show toddy's helle knife delaminated at the tip, on one side of the central lamina. i think toddy said it didn't look so well welded together on the side that failed.

Computer at home. On sattelite, and it doesn't always work as it should. Now at work - can see it fine.

Only laminated knives I've ever used (that I know of) were Buck knives. Are these similar?

Ah I see thanks. Although He Who Must Be Listened Too sounds better. :D

It does, doesn't it?
But I *need* a new bushcrafty knife, so despite the otherhalfs reservations (what he actually said was, " Really? Are you sure? Do you not think that maybe the knifeage collection has a sort of surfeit?" Inject fascetious Scots male voice ;) Younger son just looked at me, shook his head and walked away  ) I'm having one. :D
But since Helle have promised to replace the faulty one I don't really have justification for another toy, and knives are hardly like shoes, you know, * the fashion changes, the colour's wrong, I don't like the....* so I'll downplay the issue for a bit, but I want a Wren :D JFW's fitted my hand very comfortably and he's very pleased with it too.

Cheers,
Toddy, who has been using the Mora Classic in the meantime and finds it very, very good. Maybe HWMBLT is right

Just out of interest, what's happening to the old knife?

Although it's faulty, if they don't want it back I would be tempted to regrind it into a wharncliffe or a very short knife for engraving.

Stew if they don't want it back and you'd like to play with it, I'll post it down to you. On close inspection though, it's possible to see the line of the laminate all along the spine so it might not really be worth taking any trouble over it.

Cheers,
Toddy

That would be cool! :)

I think something very short could be made from it....

:D i suppose there's a first time for everything :D

:lmao: Thing is he usually is right, and I've known him for 35 years

If Helle had organised a refund I'd have put the cash towards another knife, probably a Wren, but now I'm struggling to justify another new one as well as the replacement Polar.
It's not like I collect them or anything :dunno: :11doh: .....quite fancy a Falkniven WM1 too though......

:thinkerg: :present: I could just buy it for him and he'll let me play with it :p

Besides, most of the fixed blades are too big for me ;)
