Northern lights and camera settings

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Long exposure (bulb setting on most cameras) 30s plus + camera on tripod, mid aperture f8 approx worked for me!

Think about the framing as it is likely hard to see what else is in the frame and the other detail can really make the photo.

There is a great app for iPhone (possibly other as well) that has real time data from satellite of aurora activity. Found it very useful on my Spring trip when I got great photos of aurora by Wick in Scotland.

The iPhone app is called Aurora Forecast and is free! http://www.tinacinc.com/AuroraForecast/
