Just a sprinkle of frost overnight in the fields and the wood had barely a rime by the time I got up... not the extreme conditions I was afeared of, am old wuss at heart...

Hard at work striking camp- well these things can't be rushed on a beautiful sunny sunday morning, can they...

Had a fab time as always, chaps, thank you very much, especially to Steve for the meet and helping me with the path back to dowsing, Martin for the help, encouragement n support jerky making, the there-and-gone lee for some fun projects to practice on, chad, pete and everyone who endured my overenthusiastic noobness about knifey shizzle and apologies to anyone I scared by insisting on a mumsy-type hug rather than a manly handshake ;)

what a great way to start my leave :)
Ahhh, thats why you seemed so relaxed and happy then, pete, thought you'd been to see your masseuse before you came ;)

I'm sorry you were fighting off illness, chad, twas lovely to see you all and learn more about the metalcrafting... I keep looking at my pics of petes handholds on the necker you made him, had a lil picture-taking demo to get my head around how they're used/ held for various jobs (MUCH appreciated, pete, you'da made a lovely model... I have loads of pictures of your hands this meet with the jerkying too) ... so I can figure if theres any chance of getting one and a utility off the 1 billet which looks unlikely unless I go stick tang which I know even less about!

Just wrapped the loveless knife book I bought myself from HWMBO for xmas, nigh on killed me to resist opening it ;) but I'm in no rush... Dad was enthusing bout it at the pub after the meet so its all looking good for a bit of a Nowill father n daughter learn together thing... sweeeet :) Now I just need to get the D*crosskeys 'trade mark' permission and we'll be re-entering the family trade ;)

That's great to hear Sally! I'm sure you'll do that family maker's mark justice and your Dad will be more than proud to pass down some of the oldschool skills to you! Really looking forward to seeing what you two eventually come up with, I'm sure it'll be a real thing of beauty after seeing that damascus billet you've got...like a pint of Guinness, good things come to those that wait.

He's got some mild steel we can practice on before we do irrepairable damage to the damask billet :) I was kinda joking bout the trademark, tho if we get into it, I'd ask for permission just for the ancestors sake :)

I don't think they were an activity as such, just a bit of help setting up a new 'un between freinds... should I pull the pic (and this mention) so it doesn't give others the idea that this meet allows em? I'll be more careful of the pics I post in future, apologies

the Tipi on the left dose make it look bad, but i can asure you there was nobody camping behind the target area infact its a deep ditch and the tipi on the left if further out of the line of fire than it looks. we took alternating shots to make sure their was nobody useing the path to the left of the target and we had a clear view well beyond the path leading to the area.we would not have set up in a area we did not feel was unsafe or where someone could get hurt. That said i will have a chat to Steve and look for a area he is happy for us to shoot in if he is happy for us to bring them again.

Karl is such a bad shot that he completely missed me in the tipi! Actually, I was in the tipi for much of the time the guys were practising, and I was well out of the line of fire. From what I saw their safety routines were impeccable, and I do a fair bit of air-rifle plinking myself.
