Hi all, new to fungi hunting, spent 3 hours walking through the New Forest yesterday and was hoping to get some chanterelles for my supper. Takeaway it was in the end as found nothing, is it because the weather has been dry? When's best to go looking? Any advice will be great. Thanks DB

It has been dry and we have struggled to find any in our normal haunts. Saying that, we've had a great haul of giant puffballs and hedgehogs already, as well as chicken of the woods in june. You just have to keep looking and, before you pick be 100% certain what it is you're looking at.
Ceps and Bolletes should be coming up now, and Chanterelles. Just keep looking, and vary where you walk (and always look behind you).
We are lucky on here that we have some really experienced fungi foragers (i'm just a very keen amateur). Anything you aren't 100% certain about, leave and ask. never take any chances on your ID.
